Letting Go to Come Home: The Healing Power of Community
Jun 03, 2025
There’s a quiet kind of courage in letting go.
Years ago, I made the heartbreaking decision to close the doors of my beloved studio. At the time, I didn’t know exactly where I was going—only that something deep within me was calling for change. I wanted to be a more present parent, to soften into a slower rhythm of life, and to listen to the whispers of my inner world.
It was both freeing and terrifying.
What I’ve since learned is that perimenopause—a transition so often misunderstood—is a time when many women feel a sudden and seismic shift. It’s a season when careers change, relationships dissolve, and long-buried truths rise to the surface. I now see that my experience was part of a greater pattern. A natural, if uncomfortable, unfolding.
And yet, through all the uncertainty, one truth remained: I was still deeply called to teach.
Not just yoga or Pilates classes, but teacher trainings—the kind of deep, soul-stirring experiences that go far beyond a weekly hour on the mat. These trainings are a powerful gateway into self-discovery, healing, and lasting transformation. They remind us that wellness is not just physical—it’s mental, emotional, and spiritual.
But after closing the studio, there was an ache I hadn’t anticipated.
I missed the community. The warm greetings. The familiar faces. The gentle accountability. The spontaneous friendships that bloom when people gather in safe, welcoming spaces.
That’s when I realised something vital: I don’t just teach movement—I create spaces of connection. I build community.
Teaching community classes has brought me something I didn’t know I was longing for. It has reconnected me to purpose. It gives my life rhythm, meaning, and a reason to rise each day with a full heart and open arms. I love being useful. I love sharing something that truly helps people feel more grounded, more present, more themselves.
Thanks to the ongoing support of the Gold Coast City Council’s Active & Healthy Program, I’ve been able to offer low-cost and free yoga and Pilates classes on the Gold Coast for over 20 years. This incredible initiative has allowed me to make wellness accessible—so that everyone, regardless of background or budget, can experience the benefits of conscious movement and mindful community.
Even now, I still personally teach 9 sessions a week. Why? Because I love the practices. I love the people. And I love that we’ve created something that feels less like a class, and more like coming home.
In a world that can feel fast, fragmented, and disconnected, community classes remind us of what matters most: being seen, being supported, and moving through life—together.
