06 Mar Yoga Aroma: Align Your Senses
When I say the word ‘align’, what does it mean to you? In today’s post, I’d like to explore the term and some of the things it brings up for me.
I’ll be continuing this exploration at my next Yoga Aroma (yin yoga workshop) where we’ll be using the doTERRA Align essential oil blend. Details at the end of the post.
Physical alignment in yoga
When we talk about alignment in yoga asana, we’re discussing the connection between bones, joints and muscles as they interact in our physical practice.
Good alignment prevents injuries and also enhances the pose – allows better flow of breath and further enjoyment factor for the student (it will feel better!).
However, ‘perfect’ alignment does not exist. Given we are all practising asana in different bodies, at varying levels of physical fitness, strength and flexibility, we cannot reasonably expect to all be aligned the same way. So while we can shoot for the stars and look for great alignment, in the end, it comes down to two things:
- Are we practising safely?
- And, how does the pose feel?
How the asana feels always beats what it looks like in my opinion.
Living in alignment
Alignment isn’t something we only practice on our yoga mats. Alignment or congruence is so crucial to how we live our entire lives.
As humans it’s is natural for us to have principles and values that we hold dear. Living in alignment means that we LIVE those beliefs and values. We don’t just talk about them or pretend they are important. We walk the talk.
How can you aim for greater alignment in your own life?
Align – Centring Blend
As I mentioned above, we’ll be using a new oil blend to explore these ideas of alignment further in my next Yoga Aroma class. This blend is designed to help you trust in yourself and stay open to possibilities.
DoTERRA says, “The ingredients in doTERRA Align were chosen primarily to create a centring aroma. Bergamot, Coriander, and Marjoram are the primary oils in this blend.
“Peppermint, Geranium, Basil, Rose, Jasmine, and Fractionated Coconut Oil are also included, although in smaller amounts, to create a sophisticated and beautiful aroma.”
Join me for this juicy workshop where I combine the beautiful practice of yin yoga with aromatherapy for a truly heavenly experience.
