Meet Amy Eagle

Meet the lovely Amy Eagle. We love her and asked her a few questions, so that you can get to know her aswell.

How long have you been practicing yoga & Pilates for?

I can’t even remember when I first started! I feel like it’s been apart of me forever, I definitely used to do the home DVDs that my mum had when I was little. It was when I joined Essence (maybe about 5 or so years ago?) that I fell madly in love with it though and started to make it a regular part of my routine.

What do you love about the practice & why have you been doing it for so long?

For yoga it’s the way it makes me feel. I initially liked it because it was ‘cool’ and I wanted to get flexible and mix up my training, but then I started to notice that I wasn’t so reactive and, I don’t know it just made me calmer and not take things so seriously or so personal.

Pilates is just super fun! I love how everything is to the beat! I used to be a personal trainer and I would make up exercises for warm up that would go to the beat of a song or we’d do the Nutbush as warm up, so I knew Pilates was where I was supposed to be when I came across it. I think maybe I was a dancer in my past life haha, definitely not in this life but possibly a past one. I also love that it teaches you how to be functionally fit, not just to physically look good but to look into the details of how you’re moving your body and fine tuning it to get you to your peak performance. Oh, and how it stretches you as well as strengthening – I adore flexibility!

But my most favourite part about yoga and Pilates is that they’re both connecting your body movements with the breath and I don’t know! It feels, like it’s cleansing my body and makes me feel graceful but powerful all at the same time. They just make me feel amazing, every time. All of the feels.

What do you love about eol?

Oh my goodness what’s not to love? I’ve been the biggest EOL fan since I first walked through that door. I love how the teachers are all good quality, super friendly and so fit! I find it so inspiring. Michelle really makes you feel comfortable, mi casa su casa, that’s how I felt from day dot. I also feel like the teachers inspire me to push further in my practice but at the same time it’s so supportive of where you are currently with your body and encourages you to do YOUR best – not someone else’s best. Everyone always knows your name. I LOVE the style that everyone teaches in. I’ve only experienced a few other studios and none of them teach Pilates or yoga the same way EOL does. Any time I have a friend or family member that wants to try yoga or Pilates for the first time, I make them travel to EOL to do their first sessions so that I know they’re being taught correctly and also to set their standards high, before they go off looking for another studio closer to their home haha! What can I say, I’m an EOLcaholic.

What inspired you to do yoga & Pilates Teacher Training & what would you say to someone thinking about following their passion?

Well I was already interested in the fitness industry, and when I was studying to be a PT, I was practicing at Essence. I ALWAYS went to Michelle’s classes and she inspired me to do the teacher trainings. She holds the room so well, makes the classes SUPER fun, not so serious! I thought – I want to teach like that! So I signed up to learn from the best haha. When I did my Yoga TT, it really made me appreciate yoga more, however I felt at the time I didn’t want to teach it after the training completed. When I did Pilates, I felt like I was in a much better place, more confident in who I am and how I want to teach, and it’s made me think…maybe the yoga teaching door isn’t all the way closed. What would I say to someone thinking about following their passion? GO for it. I remember Michelle saying you shouldn’t let money get in the way of doing what you love, and that really spoke to me. It may be scary but that means it’s probably the right way to go! You won’t regret it, and everything always works out to where it’s supposed to be. Even if you don’t do something with it straight away, or ever, education is never wasted and in hindsight, it might be one of the stepping stones to something bigger in your life. It’ll be the best thing you ever do. Trust in yourself.

What are your other hobbies & passions?

I love spending a lot of time with my family. I’m one of 6 kids with the youngest being only 10 years old, I really treasure my time with them and my partners family, I feel so blessed that I’m friends with my siblings, because I know a lot of people don’t have that kind of relationship. I’m really passionate about my love life – relationships. To me that’s really important, I’m always interested in learning about how to improve the quality of love, and time together and really enjoy applying it! I love being in nature and spending time with my pupper. I love drawing little comics too! I’m also passionate about natural therapies and using what mother earth provided to heal you and on the total other end, baking cakes! Haha, I’ve just completed a bunny cake for Easter and only a few weeks ago made my sisters 30th birthday cake – it’s so much fun! It lets my creative side fly, and also satisfies my love for following instructions to get a result haha.

What is your life advice in a nutshell?

Ooo, I’ve never been asked this! Say what you mean and mean what you say and listen to understand! It saves SO much time and energy and you get to the things that really matter straight away. Life literally changes in an instant and I don’t know about you but I don’t want to have any regrets when it comes to communication and quality time with the people I love. Come from a place of love, always, and be kind – you don’t know what a person is currently going through and a little kindness never hurt anybody.
